·        CRAFT , FAVOURITE CRAFT

The ability to create make our dreams tangible. This belief has driven my mother and me to experiment with anything we come across. I have observed my mother engaged in creative works ever since I was a toddler and this has been an inspiration to me for emulating her activities. In Franklin . D .Roosevelt’s words, “Happiness is not in the mere possession of money ; it lies in the joy of achievement , in the thrill of creative effort.” I believe this will resonate to every creative genius out there. The joy of achievement truly accelerates your growth and challenges you more.

After years of contemplation, our love and passion for art and design followed the inception of Kahlkot Design Studio in 2015. Here, we explore with different objects that has the potential to be ‘Art’ which includes paintings, designing clothes, jewellery and  up-cycling  bottles. However, we focus primarily on handmade jewellery and paintings.

·        LEARNING

Any creative field dwells primarily on the quality of your ideas. I personally feel, craft should be experimented with than learned , or your product will simply be a reproduction of pre-existing ideas and not unique . My mom is a self-taught artist and jewellery/fashion designer and I have been ever- so inspired by her ability to swerve between household chores and her creative side,with so much ease that it does make me want to believe that ‘WOMEN CAN HAVE IT ALL “. We have different styles when it comes to art and design and so we do learn a lot from each other.

·        STYLE

Our jewellery , is more than just a mere concoction of colour , substance and materials. These are customised jewellery that are conceptualised for customers and ranges from bohemian , traditional or indo-western. We use materials that best suits the design we have in mind.

Simple and timeless , each piece is developed to evoke the pride of craftsmanship. We want the person  to feel , observe and appreciate every detail, inundations placed there with human hands because that's what makes our jewellery special.

 

·        ORGANIZE TIME AND SPACE

The time we spend for our craft is directly proportional to the space we have , since our workshop transforms into an art class , a bedroom , an exhibition hall at different times.

However, we always give the most priority to designing and making these jewellery, or painting a new canvas anyday . Timeframe for each piece of jewellery or painting depends on the difficulty level , the requirements of the customers , the materials involved in  creating the jewellery or the theme and size of the canvas when it comes to  paintings.

 

·        CREATIVE BLOCK

It is great working in the creative field but it  can get equally tricky to stay inspired all the time, creative blocks are inevitable. As an Architect , my mind is mostly zoned out in the creative space ; so  before my ideas engulf me and I am stuck in a loop , I make sure I sketch all my ideas out . It’s important for every designer to carry a sketch book with them .

My mother on the other hand , loves the trial and error method , since some of these experiments often lead to her best designs. Being better acquainted with the jewellery design process, she always knew what the outcome would look like.

Every person is gifted with creativity and the earlier one taps into their potential, the  better it is for them . Engaging with creativity  is equal to meditation depending on your passion for the craft.
